Technology Roadmap: Geothermal Heat and Power

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has undertaken an effort to develop a series of global technology roadmaps covering the most important technologies that will “advance global development and uptake of key technologies to reach a 50% reduction in energy-related CO2 emissions by 2050.”

In 2011, the International Energy Agency (IEA) released its technology roadmap (pdf) for geothermal heat and power which summarizes how geothermal energy “can provide low-carbon base-load power and heat from high-temperature hydrothermal resources, deep aquifer systems with low and medium temperatures, and hot rock resources.”  This roadmap provides background information about current and emerging geothermal technologies and includes figures  that can  be incorporated into classroom presentations.

Check out the four page summary (pdf) of the roadmap, complete with graphics.
