2012 Energy Flow Chart Released

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory just released the 2012  energy flow chart.  A summary of the flow chart and key findings can be found in the 7.18.13 news release.

Some interesting findings:

•  U.S. energy use fell by 2 percent in 2012.

•  The US used more natural gas, solar and wind to generate electricity in 2012, and less coal, nuclear, hydro and oil.

•  The transportation sector is only 21 percent efficient; in other words, 79 percent of the fuel we put into our vehicles is lost as waste heat or other “rejected energy.”
